Spitzkoppe time to go

Post by Carl » Tue Sep 26, 2006 9:10 am

Thinking of taking a trip to Spitzkoppe in November. Is it possible to climb at all at that time of year? Can you pick routes that are shaded in the morning? What about the standard route up Spitzkoppe?

I haven't been at that time of year, but a friend of mine has.
Its going be hot, no doubt, but there will be shade at certain times of day.
The standard route is fairly shady, parts of it are more like caving then climbing. The days are also long, plenty of climbing time.
Take loads of water, a big floopy hat, long sleeves and an alarm clock to get an early start. I heard that there may be a new possible line up the main face of a more moderate grade then INXS. Sweet 8)

you can go in November but will need to play the \"chase the shade\" game. There are a number of crags and routes in the shade during different parts of the day. Just to add to the take with list: sun screen (NB) and lots of chalk. I am sooo jealous that you are going. It will be a wonderful experience! You'll want to go back! Njoy :D
I climb to get high ;o]
