Die Mond

I'm trying to find some topos for a little known climbing area called \"die mond\". It is sort of in the Ceres area, sort of on the plains inland from the Cedarberg. I’ve been there once before but we took enough beer along to forget why we were there.

I’d like to get it right this time.

I don't know if anyone has climbed there in years. It was popular in around 1990, until it became obvious that you couldn't take any non-white friends there.

Anyway, assuming that the owners have adjusted their attitude (or there are new \"normal\" owners), it is an awesome place with a beautiful river running thru a kloof with climbing on both sides. There was an article in one of the MCSA journals - which has many of the routes listed.

To get there, you drive towards Calvinia from Ceres. About 100km from Ceres, you turn left onto a farm road and drive another 20km. The kloof is completely hidden until you get there - so you won't be the first climber to assume that this is an elaborate joke.
There's no point being pessimistic, because it probably won't work

I was there last July. I'm afraid we left earlier than planned as the owners haven't changed a bit !! In fact they are keen to share their world view. In addition they brag about how their sons drive around in a bakkie shooting any creature that moves. Hence no buck, otters, anything. When hiking one does come across skeletons of the erstwhile wildlife.
I guess the peak holidays will still attract the yobos with their motor boats and shotguns. Enjoy.
