Sport Climbing at Semonkong Lesotho
Sport Climbing at Semonkong Lesotho
Anyone out there know anything about some Sport climbing at Semonkong? Didn't get any help when I called the Lodge there....
Re: Sport Climbing at Semonkong Lesotho
There is a commercial abseil there, they might know about it. The nearest I know of is at Katsi, but I am out of date
Sandbagging is a dirty game
Re: Sport Climbing at Semonkong Lesotho
Yup. I was asked to help develop climbing there, and went out with Roger to do so.
The cliffs are short basalt, not to bad in quality and a bit different from the fabled Berg basalt.
We open maybe 3 or 4 routes, not sure. At least one 18 and another 24 (sport routes). There is potential for more, but if you want to go big, the canyon below the falls has massive 80m and more cliffs with potential. can't really comment as I did not hang on a rope there, but I have a vivid memory of the very long lightning strike crack splitting the face on the walk out which awed and scared me. The crag is a short walking distance from the lodge.
