Safe climbing Areas in KZN

Postby Hayden » Thu Nov 28, 2013 2:01 pm

Hey everyone.

I am organising an end of the year climbing/Beach holiday. Spending a couple of days in Boven and then heading down to durbs.

Which Sport Crags in KZN are currently safe? I have climbed at Magnetic wall, wave cave and rumdoodle and i would like to hit some of those crags again. I just heard that some of them have become super dodgy with climbers getting mugged and cars getting broken into.

Any recommendations for a good crag to hit?

Cheers

Rumdoodle safe
Boneyard safe, just park your car in the main road, near the blue security cam. (i.e. not at the end of Watsonia road)
Mag wall seems safe at the moment, but best to go with a biggish group
Wave cave is on the dodgy list, but its summer so its not worth risking it anyway
Umgeni is super safe and definitely worth a visit, just a bit of a long drive inland
Canyon is closed at the moment due to eagles nesting - *Details here

and that's about it, and have a rad trip!!!

regards Mikey

I've been to Rumdoodle 3 times this year, no trouble at all.

For future queries, Old Shongweni is the safest crag in the coastal area on private property with a 3 min walk. Please take note of a new approach to Boneyard. Make enquiries.
