Surely not possible? Or is the guy using the Munter hitch not the guy who lost his finger. i.e. the partner got his finger jammed as his mate abseiled off? It looks like a tension break, difficult to accomplish if the carabiner is attached to the harness that you are in :-).

Assuming this guy is right handed. Could it not have happened if he was taking up slack, with his brake hand/right hand, before loading the system. As he loaded it, the hitch flipped over, as it does. So I'm thinking maybe his free hands finger got caught at that moment and as he let the rope sing through the biner realised something was wrong, used his brake hand, as I'm sure I would have, causing enough friction to not let the rope run over his finger but rather twist it with the rope and off. :?:

I hope that this photo was staged! If not, it would have been more likely to occur whilst the person was belaying.
