Theft

Postby Thermophage » Mon May 19, 2014 10:59 am

So we were in Betty's Bay over the weekend so as to go climb in Kleinmond.
Anyway, the downstairs portion of the house was robbed by guys with a long stick through burglar bars. They managed to get my climbing pack and a friends handbag. They dumped the quickdraws so the bag could fit through the burglar bars but got everything else...We heard a noise downstairs and went to investigate. the time it took for us to realise what they'd done was seemingly enough for them to get away :puker:
So if anyone sees any of the following anywhere around there or for sale on the interwebs...please let me know :)
Here's the list...eish
1 La Sportiva Solutions (41 I think)
2 La Sportiva Futura (38 I think)
3 Edelrid Rock Climbing Harness
4 Black Diamond Spot Head Torch
5 Black Diamond Gridlock Caribiner
6 Petzl GriGri2
7 Petzl Chalk Bag
8 Oakley Racing Jacket Sunglass Case and Spare High Contrast Lenses
9 Nalgene Water Bottle
10 Bear Grylls Ultimate Knife
11 Lansky Pocket Knife
12 Due South Medical Kit
13 Finger Tape
14 Deuter Futura 32l Backpack
15 Nikon Speedlight SB700 Camera Flash (ouch :()
16 4x rechargeable AA Batteries
17 Any ID dics/Passport, etc...

Needless to say it was a very expensive weekend...
Thanks to anyone who see/s or hears anything, but I'm not hopeful anything will be returned..Now lets just hope insurance is cooperative!

Cheers,
Cuan

I thought the numbers where quantities at first... thought, "Who has six Grigris?!". Then figured it out. Sorry dude, heavy news. If those where the Futuras from me, they're a 39.5.

Hey Paul, shot man :) Yeah lots of stuff stolen and they were the ones I got from you :( But I was sure they were the small (38 - UK 6) ones. Anyway, no matter on the size as not available in RSA anyway :( meh

Sorry to hear about that I hope you find your gear. I had all my climbing gear stolen in Bettys Bay in December. They smashed the car window and grabbed my bag with climbing gear, cycling gear and slackline in. The crazy thing was the police could only come over after 12pm because they had 3-4 other robberies in the area the same day! I think everyone staying in Bettys Bay must be extra careful and never leave bags or wallets or anything of value near windows or in your car. They even warned us to not leave the car unattended if you are packing/unpacking it coz if you go inside when you come out you may find that people have helped you unpack.
Klienmond climbing is awesum and its sad that your trip was tainted by this event.

Thanks :) Ya, its a real pity. the renta-cops told us we were the 6'th callout they'd had that night already.
Oh well it happens unfortunately...won't stop me going back there though...but hey if you can't even open a window in fear of theft then WTF :|

Surely there's no crime in the Promised Land of The Republic of The Western Cape?

Watch that car park. We had a car stolen once while kayaking there!
