Clif bars in SA

Postby wravenant » Sun May 11, 2014 11:58 am

How much would you be willing to pay for a Clif Bar?
We might start selling them, but just need to see if anyone actually will buy them.

Thanks.

Willem

Just bought USN and Supreme Protein Bars (96g) at R40 a piece. Feels like a rip off, but hey i needed them.

I love Clif Bars!

That is always going to be a contentious one. I think the above is the indicator - those fancy high protein bars are quite pricey. On the other hand the real price for a Clif Bar should be about the same as a bar one - but can it be? Unlikely as it would need to be way more mainstream to compete on price. What about all the health shops & their trendy bars - their formula is much the same as the Clif bar- in terms of fringe appeal - not taste.

So it becomes like everything else to do with climbing in SA - a numbers game. If it is sold in every Cape Union, Trappers etc. then maybe just maybe...

So maybe R12? Choccies are still about R6.50 aren't they?

I do!

How uncouth! Why even respond to a forum if you do not care! Personally I feel insulted - I thought you really cared Oubaas....

Seriously though - I was taught that if you have nothing useful to contribute you should remain silent - but one needs a good upbringing to grasp that concept.

Back to the point - Clif bars are way better then all the other nonsense available here in SA - so worth considering as a main food source if you spend any time outdoors (& not trolling in some boulder cave somewhere).

So I care - about the outcome and whether Clif bars will be available at a good price.

Wow oubaas, having a bad day?

I like Clif bars but not nearly as much as Probars:

Clif bars I would not go out of my way to order online and have shipped. Probars I would.

Oubaas... you should really be taking your nutrition more seriously!! :cheese:

Willem - I know that Mule Bar had a bang at the South African market and then pulled out.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of energy bars (although I do find Energade useful) and have only used them on big wall outings - where they have been useful (but generally tasted like recycled prophylactics!).
I know Cliff Bars are meant to be quite tasty (as are Mule Bars).

At my age the old body starts to fall apart and the mind just isn't what it used to be. So perhaps I should apologize and give my support to the clif bar marketers. Just one question. Will the sweetie be kind to my dentures or should I rather stick to sucking ? :thumright

So R18 for a Rush bar (if you buy a pack of 20).
I don't think that's too bad.

I pay R10 for a Woolworths energy bar (55g). They are great for energy, higher in energy per gram than most energy supplements. They are also low-GI - great for hiking, I imagine you would want a higher GI for climbing?

Anything above R12 for a 55g bar and I wouldn't even bother trying them.
