Silvermine - new climbing fee?

Post by proze » Mon Oct 23, 2017 9:10 am

Morning all. I was at Silvermine yesterday. They have a sign at the payment kiosk saying they're going to charge climbers R70 from November 1st. What the royal, all singing, all dancing heck? Have they suddenly started paying for bolts and maintaining trails?

Genade, that's a heck of lot. Decision to mostly trad climb validated.

Pretty crap though.
Happy climbing
Nic

That'll be ONLY if you don't have an Activity Permit.
technically you could not legally (according to TMNP) sport climb Silvermine without an Activity Permit previously and they did not sell a temp one at the gate.
So this is honestly an improvement...although I hate to admin TMNP actually did something right this time.
yes it's kak expensive, so get 4 mates together and buy a group yearly activity permit for around R200 per person for the year. Cheap and saves nasty kak with rangers.

Nah. Nuts to them. They don't do anything for us. Nada. Zip. Zilch. I'm going to go hiking with my pack, that's all.

ja every time I go there I'm just hiking. Up a rock face. with a rope. and rock shoes and chalk.
yup. that's it, hiking I tell you.

It's frustrating as I think we're all happy to pay when there is some value for money. However in the 17 years I have been climbing the bolting has been done by us, the path maintenance has been done by us. The clearing of chopped alien vegetation dumped from high on the cliff has been done by us. There is absolutely no value-add to us as climbers.

Until there is a value-add I'll just keep hiking.
Or trad climbing, cause trad's the only real climbing anyhow
