Cape Town Closures/Permits??

Post by DerrickStarling » Thu Oct 08, 2015 10:23 am

Hello all.
I´m making my way down to Cape Town this week, whats open for sport climbing? I see that The Hole,Lakeside Pinnacle, The Mine, and Peer’s Cave are open as of 15th of sept, is there any update on this? Also what is the permit situation for someone coming for a few weeks, can you get a short permit of fork out for a full year and hope i can get back a couple times in the next year.

Higgovale quarry and Skoorsteunskop are also open and Silvermine is still closed.

I'm unsure of the permit situation.

I wouldn't recommend Skoorsteenkop, considering the recent muggings.

I think you need a level 2 activity permit for any sport climbing within Table mountain national park, but can say I've never been asked to show mine

Thanks for that guys, Does anyone know if you need a permit for Kalk Bay Crags? R350 each is pretty dam steep when you consider I will probably use it a couple times. Anywhere else in Cape Town that doesn't require the activity permit. Cape Nature really needs a better plan for visiting climbers.

Cape Nature are not responsible for the activity permit situation. SANparks / Table Mountain National Park are the culprits here
