Marking the middle of a rope - do you? How?

Post by PeterHS » Sat Jun 04, 2016 6:44 pm

It's a simple two questions and maybe lots of answers?

I realised on a trad climb today, where I didn't know the pitch length and there was a traverse as well, that I haven't yet marked the middle of my ropes. Had my lead gone beyond halfway, then I could not have brought him down to the ground.

So please help and advise - TIA as always.

We sell a special rope fabric marker ink pen from Singing Rock. Come by the shop and we can do it for you for free.

Thanks Robert, for the post.

I have bought a marker today.

Follow on question, do you mark only the middle or elsewhere as well? I have two 60m ropes and intend marking the middles only - but always open to good advice too :).

i mark the middle and 10m from either end. that way you or your belayer know you are getting close to the end and it's time start paying attention.
