Climbing Barn Comp Report & Results

Climbers trickled in to The Barn on the morning of 6th Feb to find the climbing gym stripped and reset, waiting, ready for them to try its new routes.

Familiar faces greeted each other with keen anticipation for the days competition, 24 competitors with friends and family there for support quickly filled the gym as the comp began with a brief history of The Climbing Barn celebrating its 5th year under new management.

As eager as ever climbers set off on their first of 2 preliminary rounds. Whenever a climber grunted, or moaned when the climb began to push them, the whole gym would boom with the sound of everyone’s cheers and encouragement. A clear spread gave us our semi-finalists in each category except for the men’s novice division, a harder 3rd preliminary round solved that problem quickly.

The Semi-finals saw some of the day’s biggest falls. Dyno’s from the men’s novice , long roof for the women , and a hard power-endurance route for the men’s experts pushed all the competitors to their max, but never too much to take the fun, witty edge off their mid-climb comments.

The Finals were amazing as some of the finalists gave primal screams in desperate attempts of getting just 1 grip further, with another scream to crank them on to the next. Climber after climber, move after move, and fall after fall, the crowd cheered on, with the climbers through each route.

All in all it was a fun successful competition with everyone walking away with a prize, a special thanks goes out to the sponsors: Mad Rock and Edelrid.
